Vitamin b5 for acne
What are natural sources of Vitamin
B-5?
Name of
Vitamin B; Pantothenic acid, is derived from Greek root
Pantothenic, literally meaning ‘from every where’ pointing out
the frequent occurrence of this vitamin in nature. Rich natural
resources of Vitamin B5 include; Organ meats like Liver, Egg
yolk, Corn, Sunflower seed, Whole wheat, Whole Rye flour,
Salt water fish, Royal Jelly, Dairy products including
specially milk and yogurt, yeast, peanuts, turnip greens,
tomatoes, strawberries, grape fruit, cauliflower, broccoli and
mushrooms.
Are
there some selection criteria for these
resources?
A few
points need to be pondered upon prior to consumption of these
foods as following:
- Some
of these foods like sunflower seed, peanut, whole wheat
etc. contain ‘Arginine’ which may promote viral infection,
therefore should be avoided.
- Mushrooms are an excellent source of Vitamin B5,
but picked by you from some natural environment, may
include some very poisonous varieties. As a rule of thumb
colored or ball shaped mushrooms are unsafe wile white and
club shaped mushrooms are safe.

Broccoli
too is an excellent source of Vitamin B-5 but President George
Bush had a different opinion about it and his remarks quoted
below are amazingly enjoyable and thought provoking. In a news
conference on 22 March 1990, President George Bush said, “I do
not like broccoli and I haven’t liked it since I was a little
kid and my mother made me eat it. And I’m President of the
United States and I’m not going to eat any more
broccoli”.
How
is Acne formed?
Acne starts
to form with the clogging of sebaceous gland duct, or hair
follicles by Sebum; the skin oil. The oil causes to clog the
narrow duct. In the next stage some anaerobic bacteria (these
bacteria can live without oxygen) like ‘Propionibacterium Acne’
like the oxygen free closed environment and start growing in
Sebum. In the following phase our immune system prompts the
white cells to defend the body from intruding pathogens
(disease causing bacteria). This stage is characterized by
inflammation, red coloration around the Acne and apparent
pimples, nodules, cysts or other structures bulging out of the
skin to extreme discomfort.
Vitamin B5
for Acne
There are
two main approaches to prevent pimples. One aims at shrinking
the sebaceous gland and hair follicle to limit the storage of
sebum to avoid associated adverse effects. This method uses
chemicals like Accutane which is known for some serious side
effects like it’s said to cause depression and induce suicidal
trends. The other approach aims at accelerating the consumption
of oil through enhanced metabolism. This method utilizes
Pantothenic acid (Vitamin B5) which is a precursor of Vitamin
A. In a clinical study, four to six times, daily, application
of, 20% (by weight) Pantothenic acid, yielded impressive
results. Unlike Accutane there are no dangerous side effects
associated with its use. effectiveness of Vitamin B5 treatment
may enhanced by the use of Lactic acid which is good to
exfoliate and Salicylic acid which penetrates deep and
opens the pores.
