How to prevent cystic
acne?
How
Cystic acne differs from Nodular
Acne?
Both;
Cystic and Nodular Acne are very painful and severe conditions
of skin and both are deep located too, but they have some
distinguishing features. Try to know how to distinguish Cystic
Acne from other forms of Acne before you try to know the above
captioned question, ‘ how to prevent Cystic
Acne?’ Cystic acne is diffentiated from the nodular
acne on the basis of their appearance and composition. Cysts
are deep located, liquid filled sac like structures containing,
infected cellular and sebaceous or oily
deposit.
How
the cysts are formed?
These sac
like, lumpy structures, are formed when the hair follicle
ruptures and the oily debris leaks into immediate vicinity.
Soon after leakage it is enclosed by a membrane. Nodules on the
other hand are dry and solid, dome shaped, bumpy structures
which are smaller than cystic lesions. They are formed by
rupturing of the hair follicle whereupon their infective
content infects the adjacent hair follicles too. Sometimes both
types co exist ; known as ‘Nodulocystic
Acne’.
What causes Cystic
Acne?
Two major
causes of Cystic Acne are hormonal imbalance and microbial
infection. Regarding hormonal imbalance, we know that it
activates sebaceous glands which produce ‘Sebum’ or the skin
oil in access. When a sebaceous gland duct is blocked for any
reason, like the deposit of cellular material, the walls of
sebaceous glands rupture and the infected sebum leaks out in
the immediate vicinity and wrapped in a
membrane.
This liquid
filled sack, on account of its deeper location, can not rupture
the outermost layer of skin, causing a pressure on the adjacent
cells and nerves, which is very painful. The other major cause
is bacterial infection is infection by Propionibacterium acne.
It is mostly the causative organism, but sometimes the
infection is also caused by Staphylococcus aureus, which is a
usual resident (commensals) on human skin.

How to
prevent cystic acne?
Avoid all
sorts of touch to skin’, it is the key to successful Cystic
Acne prevention. Touch, when it comes to skin, already
suffering from Cystic Acne, is more than a word. Once you know
impacts of touch to skin, you will feel convinced to avoid it
as real and practical preventive action.
Fact is
that, anything that clogs or may clog the sebaceous duct or
hair follicle is definitely going to aggravate the Cystic Acne
condition. Squeezing for example will narrow the duct and
clog it therefore must be avoided. Moreover, being located in
deeper
Layers,
squeezing would not extract anything from the cysts, except
that it will cause severe pain, increase the chances of
spreading sub skin infection. Touching with dirty hands, using
your hand as head rest or even touching your cell phone may
potentially infect your skin with ultimate appearance of Cystic
Acne. Touch in case of Cystic acne is of crucial importance.
Men should avoid shaving in case of Cystic Acne break out and
if unavoidable, should use electric shaver in preference to the
safety razor.
